Austin Mini City 1981
This car has undergone a full nut and bolt rebuild having been completely stripped down, over the last 4 years with the intention of retaining as many original parts and features as possible without compromising on the finish of the car.
I bought the car in 2013 from the previous keeper who had stored it in his garage for the previous 12 years. It had 71,200 miles on the clock.
Having stripped the car down to the shell I had the welding done which included the usual A panels and sills. Whilst it was at this stage due to small pockets of rust I decided to replace both the front wings and the front panel.
I then sent the shell to be media blasted and etch primed at De Corrosion near to Heathrow and then to be painted at a local paint shop. I chose to keep the original colour scheme but use modern 2K paint. The inside floor and underneath has been sprayed in colour coded Raptor to offer further protection.
The car has had the following new parts:-
Rear sub-frame
Rear brakes including back plates, pipes, drums etc.
4 x shock absorbers
Complete exhaust
Larger capacity battery
All window and door seals
4 x wheel bearings
5 x Tyres
CV boots
I have not modified the engine in any way, therefore it still requires Lead Replacement additive to be used. However I have replaced all the gaskets and seals.
The interior is as found and other than being cleaned it is untouched. This is where the car could be altered if required. The carpets look a little threadbare, but I have a full set of aftermarket ones that will be supplied if wanted. I wanted the original look so never fitted them. Also the driver’s seat has a split in the leatherette that needs repairing or replacing. I have been trying to source a replacement of the same style without success so far. MOT expires 29/03/18.
As I have said I have tried to keep the originality of the vehicle as best I can.
I probably haven’t covered all that has been done to the car in this short advert, so any questions please ask.
