Finally Scanned Car Using Mems_Diag! Results.

Results at last!!

I just had to post to say that my mini is running better then it ever has. Thanks for all the help as usual. Leopoldo and Alan (and their two amazing bits of software) really came through for me.

Using the MEMS_Diag at first, I was able to see that both my TBS and air temp sensors were faulty. When replacing them didnt cure the main issue, I switched to Alans MEMS Analyzer to look at the lambda. It too was faulty. Took a bit to get one in (theres a post about it) but replaced it and the car is running spot on now! The first time with all its upgrades and its sooo nice to really be able to feel the power and drive ability improvements.

To recap, my main issue (or latest I guess) was the car would not always accelerate smoothly. Most noticeable in 3rd and 4th, with you foot in a steady position on the throttle, you would feel the car surging/stumbling a bit. On occasion the idle would hunt 500rmp or so as well. Oh, and the exhaust smelled terribly rich. Even after I sorted the other sensors and discovered the failed lambda, I reallly didnt believe it would cure all my problem. I was thinking I had a fuel delivery issue as well. Possible fuel pump related. Well, the lambda was the ticket. Amazing how poor these cars can run in limp mode and then seem fine again the next day. I really cant say enough good things about the two different programs that read these ECUs. Really a must have for any injection mini.

Cheers guys!! Go to the full post

I have been able to successfully get the MEMS-DIAG functioning on my SPI (JDM) Mini as well.

Like you, initially I had an IAT error.  I just got some carb cleaner and cleaned the sensor element (readily visible and accessible from the inside of the air box) and that cleared the code and did wonders for engine driveability.  I DO have a replacement IAt SENSOR in hand, but have been unsuccessful in removing the old one.  The threads are plastic, and when I try to force it, the boss in the air box just turns as well.  I don't want to break it and be stuck with nothing, so I have just let sleeping dogs lie.  The old sensor seems to be performing well now.

My Lambda readings are significantly different from yours.. it seems to fluctuate between maybe 850 and 975 or so (don't remember exact numbers).  I did replace my O2 sensor which resulted in gas mileage increasing from a dismal 20 MPG (US) to 28 MPG, mostly driving around town in lower gears.  Still those readings don't seem to jive with what others report.  I did pull one plug and found it to be near perfect toasty light brown color, so it doesn't seem to be running rich, and my Mini is finally performing at what seems to be near-perfect condition... stable idle, and solid acceleration right through to redline.

Finally, my car DOES have a throttle spring inside the cabin, attached to the pedal.

The JDM cars sure are a mixed bag of parts. Glad to hear yours is running so well. Unless your airbox is different then mine, the IAT sensor is a brass sensor that has a green plastic cover that makes up the hex for removal/refitting. Also, my airbox has a threaded brass block imbedded into the plastic airbox where the sensor screws into. Things could be different on the JDM cars though.

I have not been able to get my car to respond the MEMS_rosco software so I can really read my Lambda sensor.

Yes, I believe my airbox is similar.  Unfortunately, apparently the brass threads on the sensor and the brass boss in the airbox aren't willing to separate, so further force just wants to turn the entire assembly within the plastic.  Guess I'll just live with the sensor that is installed.

I'd say spray from liquid that break things loose...but not worth it as it may ruin sensor. I guess when it does finally fail, you can really get at it OR just cut off old one, and drill a new hole and mount new sensor elswhere.

Finally got my setup working to run MEMS_rosco tonight. Warmed the car up and filmed it at idle. Car isn't completely warm mind you but what do you guys make of the lambda sensor reading?

https://youtu.be/uzBUfY0E_sY

SORRY for filming it sideways. Rosco runs a little strange on a surface tablet it seems. It's very small...as you can tell my the giagantic finger that appears :-)

Hello,

Glad you got this sorted my mini sounds very similar. Does Mems Analyser do all the things that Mems Diag does but through a laptop?

Thanks

I built my own cable from direction from the creator of the software.
