Thought I'd start a project thread on my other mini, I bought it about 6 months ago and havent really touched it since due to working on the orange one. Its a 1986 Austin, with a Metro 1275, runs and drives, though needs a tune up! I havent got the biggest budget to do it, but if I find something that needs sorting, it will be done properly, not bodged (this car has enough already ) I've just been stripping it down this past few evenings, found its worse than originally thought  but I did get it for a very good price off a guy my mate works with. I did alot of mechanics with my other one, but wanted to try out some bodywork so expect plenty of pics and questions!

So far I've found both boot corners made out of plastic, flat sheet oversills, tubs and tubs worth of filler, drivers side needs both sills, a panel, a post, doorstep, rear quarter, rear valance, plenty to be done. Havent really looked at the passenger side yet! I've chipped away the sound deadening and got the wire brush out on everything. I need to order a inner sill and brace the shell so I can cut the rot out.. Behind the dash is like a rats nest of wiring, I'm tempted to buy a new (2nd hand) loom? As this one is seriously chopped up

That's exactly what happens when you fit flat sheet sills  ;D

Looks like a nice little project though.

Hard to believe it's the same car in the first picture. Looks pretty good!

Plenty of welding to be done though so good luck with that#

I agree with the comment above its hard to see this was the same car in first pic. Looks like a nice build. What are your plans weld it up and sell it on as nice bodge free mini or is it a keeper?

Thanks guys, it's defiantly going to be a lot of work! It's amazing what filler and plastic can hide, the drivers side appears to be the worst though *touch wood*. My original plans were to buy it, repair it and sell it on, but since its been in the garage my sister has been keen on buying it to take to uni, just for what I've put into it, but then I'll have first refusal for it, so all going well it will stay in the family and it will still kind of be my car :D

That sounds like a good plan, and nice to see it staying in the family. The sidewalk was worse on drivers side to with the horrible oversills hiding loads of sins.

Good Luck with the build I am looking forward to loads of pics :)

So, after working on it quite a bit this week, evenings and most of today, the car just gets worse, I got to a stage where I was welding in a new patch on the rear arch,or trying at least  :shy: It would weld ok in one place, then just blow a hole in another place, I fiddled round with the welder with no avail, I think its just because the metal is corroded so badly and is very thin, and the more I start to cut out and try to weld, the bigger the patch gets and really I'm at the point of thinking its not worth the time, money and hassle, I dont like giving up on things but this project has turned out to be alot bigger than first imagined, the passenger side will need the same doing to it, then the whole boot floor is shot, so I think I might call it quits. Possibly the shortest project on here  and if it was my other one where I have some sentimental value to it, I'd probably put the work in but I've got things I want to do to mine, as well as wanting another car (non mini)

Looks like a great project. Plenty of work, but aren't they all! Maybe take a few days break and assess from there?

Dont give up man, it can all be rebuilt. Just cut everything back and start on one side and work you way round dont get stressed with the whole car. I have done that before and it doesnt help.

Hope you keep going man it needs to be saved :)

That needs an arch tub for sure.

Don't give up though, just break it down to smaller jobs and work round. It will soon come together.

Good luck whatever you decide.
