Which Way Round Does The Rod Change Yolk Go?

Best Answer Deathrow , 31 August 2017 - 12:45 PM

I believe you are referring to this:

As Moke Spider and nicklouse said, it is pictured the correct way up for when the selector is fitted to the car.

It's easy to work out the orientation using the two raised nubs next to either roll pin as it is those nubs that operate the reverse light switch in the housing. If it's upside down it won't reach the hole where the switch enters the housing.

I've had my rod change out to change some pieces (KAD quick shift, selector bias, bushings etc)

Gone to put it back together and I can't remember which way the actual rod change sits.

It's a kind of bent bar with a cup where the gear stick ball sits.

Does it go:

----    ----    or          _
     \_/               ----/ \----

?

I've done it the latter way, since that seems to move better than the other way but wanted to be sure before I commit.

Ah no, I meant the actual rod that selects the gears. The notched part inside the housing.

I think you're referring to the 'eye' or 'yoke' , the alloy do-da that's in the shifter body?

If that's what you're wanting to know, then the normal way it fits up is as per your first sketch when the shifter body is right way up.

Confused now. Do I have it correct or not? I've positioned it so the notch in the yoke is facing upwards.

The cast yoke hangs down.

And also I was misremembering which way I even put it! I did this last night and I should've got to look before asking. D'oh.

Hehe.

Did you put the bottom cover on the correct way too?

I had to put mine together and make sure that lift to reverse was bottom right on the stick.

That sounds right, the bottom of the gearstick should hit it when you head over for reverse.

I doubt you'd be able to re-assemble it with the Eye / Yoke upside down !

Good work all the same.

Meanwhile in the far flung future......

Just wanted to say thanks to this post I've now got a fully functional gearshift.

Yes you can assemble the shifter with the yoke inverted.

What you get is a REALLY sloppy shift in gears 1 through 4 (2nd and 4th were not very positive) and it's impossible to put it into reverse.

Now by the power of KAD my gear selection is second to none.

Stay safe out there kids.
