Just a quick update on the digital clock, I'm trying out a new one, it should be here in a couple of days but here's the whole dilemma: I'm starting uni again on Monday. My car's down there but it doesn't have an ashtray. The mini with the ashtray is my Mum's but she's in France so I only see her a few times a year which obviously means it's difficult to get the case size right. Obviously I'm not allowed to solder in my accommodation so I need to do it back at home in Cumbria. So as you can tell it's quite difficult at the moment. I'll try and progress with it as fast as possible though and will carry on updating you.

Make friends with someone in the DT / Electronics / Engineering workshops at your University, see if you can do some soldering there, they might even run an electronics workshop or club/society. And maybe keep an eye on the freebie section here for someone giving away an old ashtray, which might help with sizing your case etc. Good luck!
