Hi everyone,

Just after some advice for when painting time comes around for my 95' SPI once all the welding is done. It has been resprayed at some point in 2k and after researching as best i could the order for painting is as follows;

Bare-metal, fill and smooth all welds and repairs

Scuff/key all other paint

Spray epoxy primer (i was looking at the rust-buster 421 stuff? its iso free and will apparently work with a cellulose top coat?)

Sand and smooth as needed

High build maybe?

Seam seal

Topcoat (cellulose)

Flat and polish

Please let me know if there is a better alternative for any of these steps as this is my first DIY paint attempt

cheers

Harry

I've just used some of the 421 epoxy on mine but i painted it on with a brush.

Yesterday I removed a bit of metal that I had already painted a few days ago, because I've decided to change the whole boot floor rather than patch it, and as I was wiggling and bending the metal, the paint cracked and peeled off.

use an acid etch primer on bare metal, it should be thin, then seam seal, the hi-build prime then topcoat.

I find with epoxy primer a very smooth surface is not really ideal to bond to, it should have a shotblasted sa2.5 finish for best results, I always run a da over the surface with a p80 pad on it to help.
