Top work :D

We probably have it somewhere. My wife’s granddad had Alzheimer’s before he died and so a lot of paperwork got shuffled filed and lost as a consequence. Lots was stored damp and we haven’t sorted through everything yet. It’s probably 15 years since a proper worthwhile service and the last 4-5 years it was on the road I suspect the garage did the bare minimum as it came out of the garage drove to test and went back in the garage for another year. Now the wife’s grandmother is heading the same way with her brain function and it was her car. She lives with us and sometimes can’t remember what she had for lunch or where she went for it. Old age and dementia in its many forms is hideous. This is her car and it had a major body shop (hashed) repair at some point and she has no recollection of the accident that caused it or when it happened. It’s a real shame.

Now just want it back the way it was originally.

Those jig wheels should be more than up to the job - there's not much weight in a mini until you start bolting in engine & subframes by which time it won't be on the jig.

Throw nothing away!

It's always nice to see the various FE/F plates kept on the shell (like the one spot welded to the slam panel) cut them off any panels that need replacing/repairing & weld them back in the original position.

Some original parts are NLA, very hard to find, & can be expensive if you do find them.

As MrBounce pointed out some bits can be refurbished (things like replacing the bolt section on the Mk3/early Mk4 bonnet hinges rather than using the later shape ones).

mk3's are new new mk1/2 for me! chuffin love them.

I would definately take the oil rag restoration approach on this and retain all that character!

Wow. Where did 6 months go?

Nothing done on the car as is the way with these projects, hoping to order a rollover jig shortly and then get back onto it this summer.

Trying to catch up on the threads I was following for now.

Bit more done this evening. All the doors are off, Boot door included. Removed the rear lights (they don't match so need to try to source a Lucas near side light or lens for a Mk III). All the wiring is gone from the boot and the exhaust is off too, as is the alternator and the fuel lines are disconnected in preparation for the engine coming out. Need to remove the hand brake covering plates and the mounting bracket for the gear linkage housing but need an assistant for those then its onto the engine and running gear. so far only the one fixing screw has needed drilling out as the head stripped because it was seized.

Getting close to being able to get some work done on it.

doors off

another pile of filing for later

Lovely mk3 you got. - looks like a solid car.

if you dont mind, is there a hole on the other end of the fresh air box in 125mm ? - im asking bacause i cant find mine anymore and wondered if they are all prepaired for air vents on the dash.

cheers.

On 1975 UK spec 1000 Mini models face level vents were an optional extra, so my guess is that they would have been made to accept dash vents .

Not sure about export models -your Mascot has 1" deep door window inner mouldings & i think they stopped fitting them to UK cars in 1970!
