Is it fair to assume that the Timken bearings advertised and sold by Minispares as such are the genuine item?

I would think as minispares are a reputable company if they state genuine then they will be.

I would agree it safe to assume they are, why do you ask?

Mine are from there and I'm sure they're genuine. They've never been a problem.

They can only be presumed to be genuine if Minispares will confirm that they were procured directly from Timken or one of their authorised distributors. There are many counterfeit bearings out there, some purporting to be genuine Timkens. See the Timken web site.

All Mini suppliers would do themselves, and their customers, a big favour by operating proper quality control processes that at the very least guarantee traceability of the products. Contrary to popular belief, it saves more money than it costs. Every serious industry knows that. But will they do it? Seemingly not until there is a very serious accident and one of them ends up in court on corporate manslaughter charges.

Interesting post - I also need a set, and am curious if they source from Timken directly.

You can via a bearing dealer, but I've found it cheaper to purchase via the likes of Mini Spares.

So do the fake ones that's the problem. There was a thread on here a few weeks ago with a video from Timken showing how the fakes are mass produced and to the untrained eye you can't spot the difference. That's why its important to buy from a reputable supplier like Minispares to ensure they'll be backed up by their guarantee.

Fake ones I have seen had no markings what so ever if you have them side by side you can feel/see the difference for sure

The poor fakes are easy to spot, decent fakes are much better and it can be very hard to differentiate between fake and genuine. Hence to only way to be sure you have spent your hard earned on the genuine article is to buy direct from an authorised distributor.
