but we never needed to do anything. but were were using copper gaskets maybe they sealed better around that area.

i would be talking to SC as it should not need anything special doing.

I suspect it is because you are using Copper Gaskets that you had no issues.

If I recall, Northernpower is using a BK450 which does have a copper sealing ring for the Standard Oil pathway. Great for that, however they are proud of the gasket no matter how well it's torqued down and this I suspect is why it will always leak.

I've nearly always found in with standard 5 port heads that these gaskets give some leakage of the coolantways on to the deck for the same reason, only from the firing rings, hence in part, why I've said in the past, I'm not crazy about the BK450 gaskets.

that is what I was getting around to thinking. but never having seen a BK450 I was not sure.

Just to clarify, the original set up was a BK450 and over time it leaked oil through the layers. I'm certain this was down to two things, the wrong gasket and my over enthusiasm with the adjustable oil pressure.

The current set up is a copper gasket and a lower oil pressure. The original reason for the post was I'd worked out when I took the head off, the gasket was wrong and the pressure was too high, therefore I asked the original question "how much is enough oil pressure?". My reason for the question was, having experienced the seeping I wanted to make sure this one didn't. Having listened to the advice about gasket types I'm more than happy with the copper gasket; I just wanted as much confidence as I cold get it would not leak.

My insurance for this was to drop the oil pressure. The copper gasket does not leak and I'm more than happy my action in reducing the pressure slightly is the preventive action I need to maintain the integrity of the gasket.
