Hello again!

I am looking at my wiring loom, which is a bit messy with various bodge job repairs... so I was going to repair and re-wrap the loom..

From new it looks like it was wrapped in Grey PVC non-adhesive tape  - which I want to replace - but how is the tape secured at the ends? It looks like its wrapped around itself, and glued???? Any ideas?

Many thanks

HI, the non adhesive PVC tape is finished off by using a loop of tape placed under the last few turns of the wrap then the end of the tape used for the wrap is passed through the loop, you pull the loop which tucks the wrap tape end under the loom  wrapping and is held secure under the wrap.  The loop is pulled right out and the end of the wrap that protrudes through is trimmed off.

Hope you can understand this as it is not too easy to describe, if not just get back to me.

Thanks - I think I need to read that a few times to understand it..

Is the loop of tape under the last few turns, a separate piece of tape?

Hi   yes you use a seperate piece of tape about 6 inches long doubled over to form a loop. This loop is used as a drawcord to pull the loose end of the wrapping tape up under the loom tape, With the loose end passed through the loop, pulling the loop drags the wrap end up and it is secured in place by the last few turns of the wrap.

Basically a flat knot.

Or, if you are careful with a soldering iron, wipe the hot end of that over the ends a couple of times to melt them to the layer below. Practice that a few times though before trying for real as you don't want to melt or pick up the wire below.
