I'm contemplating buying a Road worthy mini & was looking on the net & came across the Japanese imports.
What's people's views on these?

Go for it, they don't use salt on Japanese roads, the only downside is AC

don't think this actually makes much difference. We had a Toyota vitz (jap import yaris) for a short period and even for a young driver of 19 it was no more to insure than a UK spec yaris.

Insurance is expensive anyway, it being an import the insurance think they'll struggle to source parts 😉

I looked at a jap import before I bought Benny, the insurance even though I stated rhd almost tripled compared to similar uk models

No downside, insurance the same if you use classic policy anyway. No rust, low mileage usually and you may get a few tasty extras thrown in. Rust is the biggest bonus (the lack of) - just get some bilthamber wax on it double quick to keep it that way.

Must admit I'd never thought about the insurance side of things. I also thought the air conk& lack of rust was a bonus!
Also are these cars as sort after or worth as myas a U.K. car?

Nice clean cars. Not a fan of air con or of the Jap styling, but having looked at insurance it costs no more than an English Mini. In fact the quote Ive just done on Compare the Meercat actually came back as £50 cheaper than my current Mini.
