To give you all a better understanding of what i'm doing, I am planning on putting a Stage 3 head from Minisport onto my SPI, along with some 1.5:1 roller rockers. I have been told by a rather helpful person there that the head should give a CR of around 10.1, furthermore he recommended the following head gasket kit https://www.minispor...urbo-bk450.html

I just want to double check with some of the rather knowledgeable users on here that the above head gasket set would be fine, or if standard or even copper would be a better option.

thanks for any help.

Zach.

If you buy a head from Mini sport you would be advised to measure the combustion chamber volumes and do a check calculation to establish the comp ratio.
Then, if necessary, it can be corrected before fitting.

as above. measure the CC on your side, measure the CC in the head Add for a gasket and work out what you are getting. then you will also need to check for any issues with the rockers. coil bind or valves and piston contact.

copper is often said to work best where both surfaces are freshly machined.

they are all I have ever used.

Was planning on measuring anyway just to know for certain, but was wondering what people would recommend.

I once bought a head from Minisport and the chamber size was nothing like what I had ordered, despite my giving them full details. Since they also failed to fit new gear linkage bushes in a competition gearbox for which I paid (a lot of) money for I no longer deal with them.

Why not buy from Mini Spares?

The BK450 gasket is very good.

Looking for an SPI head and can't seem to find anything for them, only MPI and carb, unless either a carb/MPI head will fit..

spi is any 92 on (not MPi) head and you get your discount from Minispares. IIRC get confirmation from others.

that is my understanding. but you need to see if you have the water take off at the clutch end or not and pick accordingly.

but like i said i am not 100% sure if there was anything odd about the SPi head. as far as i know it is only the MPi. that had extra cast holes to mount the Alternator.

water temp hole may need blocking?

Ok,
I have a 1275 SPI
i'm going to be ordering some 1.5:1 roller rockers.
I'm looking for a head to turn my mini into a track day/weekend bit of fun that is quick ish (for an a series).
I've read online that with a 'stage 3' head, rockers and my current exhaust/air filter setup I can look for around about 85-90bhp.
I'm all ears to any suggestions from people as to what head to get.

thank you very much.

i would not bother with the 1:1.5 roller rockers.

is the engine out? change the cam so something a little hotter and keep standard rockers.

Bump, I have the money for the head now from the Grandfathers will (told me to spend it on something that will make me happy)
Looking for a head, in red from a reputable company which will, along with 1.5:1 rockers, K&N and a 'stage 1' exhaust give me around 80-90 or more bhp. budget for head is around £800-£900
Engine is a 95' 1275 Single Point injection.

thank you for any help.
