So as I tinker away with the mechanics of my mini I cant help but find myself wondering what on earth I am gonna do about the paintwork.. the previous owner has done a rattle can job and calling it shabby chic would be ambitious... in reality it needs completely stripping back and a full respray.. my problem is I dont have the bank balance of an oil tycoon so even with a respray its never gonna be a concourse car.
Im not exactly a fan of the VW rat look but I do quite like the oily rag patina effect... has anyone had any success with this and any picture of yellow minis with such a thing??

Heres my subject!

Oily rag look generally works on vintage cars with much darker paint.

One of the main issues with a Mini and 'patina' is that they don't develop one, they just straight up rust.

Usually the best look is some minor surface rust with sun-baked paint, sometimes if the car's had several paintjobs you can rub though them and leave a trace of each one showing.

Chances are if you rub back a Mini in the same way you'll end up with huge lumps of filler, bits of cardboard and the odd piece of chicken wire poking out the sill  :ohno:

Im sure Ill end up just being normal and having a respray. Just trying to look at the mini as a blank canvas for any other possibilities.
This sort of thing I quite like but Im not sure it would work in yellow

Cool look though! Some people take a lot of time and effort to get that neglected look.. its like these people that spend an hour to make their hair look messy

Nope, I chucked the duke under a hedge for 2 years and forgot about him!!

Dragged him out a couple of weeks ago to MOT and use!!

I like the way he looks and have no intention of changing him!!

Faded racecar is a look a mini could pull off if you're willing to spend abit to get the parts.

You want painted numbers and advertisign signs, rubbed through so only a faint image remains.

Stick some old wheels, bucket seats and front light protectors on and it'd look pretty good.

Several layers of paint were rubbed down to reveal the original sign writing on Sunny Citrus
