190bhp is a lot of power from a pinto, not many make real 190bhp

They do these days. An all-steel 2.1 Pinto on twin 45's can give well over 200 with the right cam.
This one has a single Weber to meet the regs, but for tarmac stages where twin 45's are allowed it should give 190 or thereabouts.
At the moment the carb intake is slightly too small and there is a slight dizzy problem which a replacement will sort. Then we expect about 160 to 165.
First rally this weekend.

Apparently the car went very well although the handbrake needs some improvement.
He loved the forest sections.
The big problem was navigator sickness which ruined their performance overall.
Having suffered from this I know how bad it makes a navigator feel. But John soldiered on right to the finish.

I didn't see it on the move, only parked up at the halts. Looked well though - a nicely built car.

Thanks Graeme, nice of you to say so.

I did feel sorry for John Thornley. He is an excellent navigator and I have done a few rallies in the 'S' with him navigating including winning an HRCR Championship event. Presumably he just forgot to take that vital anti-sickness pill. Mick said he felt so bad he wasn't even able to look at the speed tables on the regularity sections.

As a former navigator myself I know how bad it makes you feel and you also feel that you have let the driver down.

The handbrake didn't work too well, but the 'fix' is to fit bigger drums, twin handbrake cables and standard linings. That's the next job!

Mick said the handling on the loose was fantastic and it is so much quicker than a Mini on loose surfaces.

I believe my old friend Pete Tyson did well in his Mini though.

Pete did OK yes - a bit of a return to his norm after a big off the other year which seemed to knock him a bit. Wasn't the top Mini though ;)

The forests weren't really ideal for Minis - never are against 'scorts and 911s. But there were a few surprises for the HRCR boys
