hi, I need help as I bought a mini and the brakes are week, I've bled them several times and rebuilt them once, put new pads in and it still on-going problem. its got fiesta mk1 callipers, a bias valve and a servo but wondering if that has anything to do with it much appreciated if anyone can help. note I keep having to pump the pedal to get brakes to work correctly

you still have air in the system. It's either getting in because something is faulty or it never left because it hasn't been bled well enough. Replacing pads etc isn't going to make any difference until you sort out why the air is there.

as above air in the system still. or you have a leak letting fluid out.

Not sure what the calipers look like but they will be handed, so check to see they are on the right side. If there is a bleed nipple it should be at the top.

If everything checks out and you are still struggling to get the air out the system try a pressure bleeding kit.

Have you made sure the rear shoes are adjusted up fully?

If you have vacuum brakes pop the vacuum hose off behind the master and have a look in the vacuum chamber for fluid, mine did the same thing and my master cylinder was leaking into it.

thanks for the replies still on going problem bled brakes upwards of 20 times, it has the old type master cylinder which has been bled then the remote servo to the callipers but the pedal still goes to the floor until I pump it once or twice to get the working. when I bleed the system all that comes out is clean new fluid. much appreciated for the help guys.

Did you check the adjustment of the rear shoes?

Sounds like the calipers are on wrong sides

the servo is mounted to the inner wing the rear shoes have been adjusted properly and callipers are on the right way, im wondering if the master cylinder isn't powerful enough to pump fluid through to callipers due to them being bigger than mini ones but still unsure.

Sorry I should have been clearer - I meant orientation of the servo rather than position. Bigger calipers alone should not cause problems bleeding. Have you tried a pressure bleeding method?

If the set up is correct and bled correctly it will not need pumping to make it work. The problem is most likely air still in the system. Once all the air is out and the system is set up correctly there will be very little travel on the pedal. The possibility of a mismatch on the master cylinder to the calipers will result in poor braking efficiency not a problem of having to pump the pedal; you will be aware brake fluid is designed to not compress, therefore, it won't need pumping up.
