Just started year 2 of a foundation degree in Automotive Engineering and we have to do a major project. I have a 998 A+ engine which  want to dyno > rebuild the engine/head (maybe blueprint) > dyno > modify head > dyno again. They have an engine dyno at college but not sure if they will let me use it yet and even tho i want to engine dyno it I want to get everything so its ready to put in the mini,

There are loads of bits missing from the engine and I need to make a list of all parts and tools required so I can plan the build, looking for help/advice with this :)

Tools

DTI gauge         - i bought one but not happy with the quality

Magnetic stand -  HAVE

Flywheel puller

1.5" socket

Engine crane - ordered

Engine stand - ordered

Timing wheel

Valve spring compressor

Parts

Starter motor

Alternator

Distributor

Oil filter

Oil

Coolant hoses

Coolant res

Coolant

Water pump

Thermostat

Radiator

Air box - might still have the original

Air filter

Carburettor - believe it should be hs4

Fuel filter

Fuel hose

Ideally i want to use all the pistons and shells etc for the first dyno run then rebuild with new. Same with the head, use what is there then rebuild with new.

Will have to start looking for a company that can do the engine dyo if college wont, dip the head and block and also convert the head to unleaded.

I have attached some pictures and you can see some slight damage to the block.

Any help/advice is much appreciated :)

Found this carb, the same seller has one with a red jet for the same price. Which one is standard?

Originally this engine would be fitted with a HS4 waxstat jet carb. Albeit either would work and most find the pre-waxstat carbs are less troublesome. The waxstat jet was brought in from what I've heard to tackle emissions issues.

Bought the carb listed above :)

Any recommendations on the spark side of things? Ill have a look but i'm pretty sure I don't even have spark leads and plugs and there are so many different distributors which vary in price :)

Standard 998 A +, would have a 59d as standard or a ducellier. The 59d is the distributor to go for (ducellier was short term and isn't well catered for), even if you're looking to modify it can be recurved and converted to electronic ignition for reliability. BP6ES plugs are the plugs to go for and a good set of leads from any supplier will be more than adequate, Minispares C-27H7779 leads are a good option, without breaking the bank.

Sorry hadn't seen your reply. All looks good, apart from the distributor ideally needs to be an ADU5789. Which has the correct advance curve for a standard 998. Also the coil is fine providing the car is using a ballast ignition wire (aprox 82-92 998's)?
