Hope some of you good people on here can help me out. I have a 1990 998cc MIni, has a HS4 carb. Starts fine, going down the road, doing just fine, get a little hesitation, then a violent buck, two or three of them, then it stalls. Also it will do this at idle. Will start back up with no problem. Drive for five or so minutes, will do it again. Can anyone help? Thanks Gary

Whats the fuel delivery system condition? Are you happy its delivering constantly? i.e. pump pressure, rubber hoses, sediment, dirt in float chamber? What sort of ignition, if its points, could be a condenser.

HS4 has a wax stat which are a pain in the bum when they get old. look it up. Best trick is to remove it and replace it with a penny.

Sounds like lack of oil in the carb dashpot to me as well, all the signs.

Coil breaking down? If it has a points distributor, maybe condenser is on the way out.

Thank you all for the info. The only thing i did was top up the oil in the dashpot and my fuel vent on the gas tank was stopped up under the car. Don't know for sure what the prob. was, but the little guy is running like a champ now. :)
