Hi everybody,

I have a 1993 Cooper SPI, running on 4.5x12" std wheels with 165/60/12 Yokos.

It is fitted with fully adjustable suspension:

> adjust-a-ride Hilos front & rear

> adjustable front lower arms and tie rods,

> camber and toe rear brackets,

> solid mounts to subframe (aluminum tower pads and front teardrop mounts)

I intend to use the car for fast road and mountain rally (100's of turns :) ) so I have been confused

about what geometry settings I should use. My thoughts are:

Front

Camber: -2 deg

Caster: +3.5 or 4 deg

Toe out: -3 mm

Rear

Camber: -1 deg

Toe in: +1.8 mm

How does this sound to you?

Thanks!

Hi !

For me with 12 inches wheels you don't need too much camber.

Front:

Camber: + 1 deg
Caster: - 3,5 deg
Standard toe out

Rear:

Camber: 0 deg
Standard toe in

Those settings give a good balance between front and rear, you do not eat tires too much, and you have a good grip, that's a good starting point, try it and feel it.

As your Mini is intended for fast road use and not for racing, you should keep in mind that your tuning should be a compromise, don't be excessive.

I run a very similar setup tp what Alex suggests and am very happy with the overall ride/feel. Allows car to be steered with the throttle but without being completely sketchy.

What are you running for cones/springs?

Between posting and today, I had the car adjusted to the following setup:

Front:

Camber: -2

Caster: +3.5

Toe: out,1/16

Rear

Camber: -1

Toe: in, 1/16

For general driving it serves the purpose, but for fast cornering I think it would need further lowering, 1-2 cm and maybe more neg camber.

Height right now is 24cm front and 25.5cm rear, measuring from the edge of the door step.

Alex, do you suggest positive camber front and negative caster? I think the other way round would be more appropriate for cornering, no?

Brivinci, cones are standard Dunlop, one year old all around.

The car is not used on an every day basis, occasionally only and 3-4 times per year for historic racing.

You can go lower. Ill post in (my) morning with exact numbers. Going super low can cause more problems then good, unless proper proper fixes. Bump steer can be crazy.

Im running the road/rally cones. By mistake, I was given a set of the race cones. I installed and ran for a decent amount of miles before I realized. They were stiff!! The road/rally cones are certainly stiffer then stock but man they keep the car a lot flatter then standard.

What shocks are you running?

KYB Gas-a-djust and they perform really well, with absolutely no problems.

Finally found my measurements. I made "sticks" in both lengths so I can be sure I got it right, quickly. Measuring from the lower body seem line right behind the front wheel and right in front of the rear.

F: 8.75"

R: 9.25"

I just installed some Gas-a-justs on my 57 Thunderbird of all things. Man, what a difference!
