Door Lock Jammed - How To Remove ?

Best Answer JBW , 03 October 2017 - 04:38 PM

Just an update. Managed to get the door open by sawing through the striker.

The problem in the lock was that the spring keeping tension on the lever that the door handle push button operates had broken, there was excessive play in the lever pivot, which allowed the lever to "miss" the lug tat it moves.

If I'd have drilled the rivet head of the pivot out, it may have allowed the lever to get back to its proper position.

Have a problem with drivers side door lock (not the barrel) its jammed shut, the little spring that holds the opening lever in place has broken, so the door won't open. I've tried levering the lever & pushing the internal lever back etc. for the last 2 hours, but can't seem to make any progress. I have a replacement lock, so can see how its supposed to operate.

Any sensible suggestions ?

You can see the bell crank lever that engages the actual latch. The L shaped bit top right with a tension spring. The outside handle release button pushes it and you need to turn it the same way to release the latch.

Thanks, I tried that, could see how it operates as I have a spare lock. I gave up trying to get it to unlock, as it seems totally jammed, decided the only way is too cut the hoop of the striker plate, its a slow job, but eventually I'll get it done and get the door open.

This photo explains far better than words. The little spring has broken, allow the lever to go up, but not moving the spigot, so the lever then was jamming against the spigot piece and would not unlock.Attached File  IMG_20171004_084728755.jpg   30.96K   2 downloads
