Passed!!
No advisories just told the tracking needs doing.
Even though its the end of the month I couldnt resist taxing it and going for a drive. Drove 30 mile round trip visiting a couple of friends and family and didnt have a single problem
Oil pressure was between 4055 depending on speed
Temperature between 80-88

Couldnt be happier, cant wait for another excuse to go out!

Thanks everyone this project would still be in bits without your help over the last 8 months

Just a quick update for anyone who doesnt follow my instagram. (@mini_citye)

Have done around 400 miles since passing the Mot. Technically we havent had a breakdown but we have developed problems! I guess they are to be expected after being off the road for 19 years

Ive replaced the points and an accuspark electronic ignition. Had some timing issues but all sorted now!

Had a pretty bad leak from the drivers side diff input into the gearbox, removed and replaced the seal and seems alright so far!

Now have a leak from the water pump so have a new one on order as well as a silicone bypass hose. Will take some photos and upload when I get round to fitting them!

Havent yet attended any shows or meets as Im a massive F1 fan and all the shows seem to be on Sundays when theres a Grand Prix

Water pumps don't like being dry - I think all the cars I've put back on the road after restoration have needed a new one before long - good to see another restoration on the road.

So it’s been 1 year to the day since I decided that I’d forfill a lifelong dream of not just owning a classic car but a classic mini!
I’m much poorer than this time last year, I have a lot more cuts and bruises and my driveway has never had some many patches of oil all over it.
But it’s been great and a real sense of achievement from start to finish.
I purchased the car with only ever doing a couple of oil changes and changing the odd bulb and that was the extent of my mechanical knowledge. In the last year I’ve done a head gasket, clutch, brakes, drive shafts the list goes on and on. Even resprayed the roof and it doesn’t look terrible!

Best of all I’ve met lots of great people, and the £5 I spent on this forum has saved me £££££ answering every silly question I’ve asked and helping me get my project on the road!

Thanks all and fingers crossed I keep her going for years to come

So as winter fast approaches Ive got a few plans of things I want to do whilst the mini is hidden in the garage.

When I purchased the car last year my plan was the typical strip down, respray and restore to its former glory. As I’ve got to know the car and done different jobs on it and gone to a few mini shows I’ve really grown to really like my rather shabby paint job. Don’t get me wrong the gleaming mirror finished museum quality cars I’ve seen at shows are amazing but I kinda like my flat rattle can paint job as I think it has a certain charm to it.

What I want to do over winter is!
1. Remove the black plastic wheel arches and just have rubber seam/sill mouldings
2. Paint the steel wheels that vintage cream colour and fit some stainless hub caps
3. Remove the oval speedo so it’s back to just the centre speedo and I’ll hide the temperature/oil pressure gauge somewhere
4. Maybe remove the black bonnet stripes

Overall I think I want to make the car a bit more retro and back to basics look. I’m not really into making a mk1 replica as I want to make sure that at any point it can be returned to mini city e spec

That’s the plan! But hopefully we get another month or so before the axl stands come out

Thought I best do a post winter update!

Unfortunately the mini has been rather neglected since being put in the garage.

My dad passed away last month and was very unwell for the last 6 months so I havent had the time or motivation to be out in the cold enjoying mini ownership.

but as well all know life goes on so I have booked her in for an MOT monday and got a few service parts to do this weekend.

Hopefully this year ill be able to go to more shows and get more use out of the mini as last year with one thing or another I didnt get to spend as much time out playing as I would have liked!

£5 membership paid again! minispares here i come...... ££££££

A bit of an update before the mini goes into winter hibernation

This year the mini has had plenty of use
IMM (over 500 mile round trip) and a lot lot more daily use when dry.

After the MOT failure I replaced

Radiator (Fletcher alloy one)
All coolant hoses for silicone
New heater matrix
Head gasket
Front wheel bearings
Usual service parts
The engines been quite happy with Minispares own brand oil and and stp oil treatment, I was using Halfords own brand tin stuff but found the oil pressure wasn’t great once hot and then leaked from the gear rod inputs once hor

Bodywork wise it’s still the same ugly paint which I’ve kinda grown to like.
Painted the steel wheels with hammerite smooth cream
Removed the plastic wheel arch trims and filled the screw holes...

Removed the oval binnacle and went back to the single speedo but have got a dual smiths water temp/oil pressure gauge.

Over all it’s been a great year in the mini and hopefully next year will be a bit dryer for longer and I can do many more miles!

As ever thank you everyone for your support
