I have a 1989 mini 30 auto and found difficulty fitting a standard bottom hose (GRH 240 from Minispares) because it seemed too long at the bottom end, pushing against the engine when fitted to the radiator, and the top end heater take-off hose fouled the tappet chest breather canister. I queried this with Minispares and was told that the tappet chest breather canister was fitted to much earlier engines. I cannot find any reference to the year when these canisters stopped being fitted and wonder if the wisdom of the Forum can help with an answer, please?

The Minispares site does say "With instructions available if required, for using on 998cc and cooper S with tappet chest breather canisters, where you will need to shorten the water-pump/radiator end of the hose,or cut as per your original hose"  so I have an answer to fitting the hose (ie cut it to match the original), but I am concerned now that the engine may not be original even though the numbers match.

Thanks in advance

Mike

Tappet chest cover breather is standard on all 998's, so no need to worry. Bottom hose will need trimming by about half an inch I have tended to find. The heater outlet does sit fairly close to the breather but it shouldn't be anything to worry about, just make sure it is clear of the exhaust manifold and you'll be fine.

Many thanks, that's really reassuring about the breather! I have ordered another hose and will try to cut it down a bit to fit.

All very best wishes

Mike
