One of my former employees and two of his associates just finished a kit airplane in 8 months. He put together this story of the build and first flight and his writing is not half bad! By the way, Les is the one in the cockpit picture and also he does not fit the pattern of his partners in the last picture.

I haven't read the full story, but thats a very nice looking aeroplane. I forget who it was that said 'if it looks right, it is right' Im thinking it might be the designer of the Supermarine Spitfire and P51Mustang, R J Mitchell...

It looks much like an Extra 300 aircraft which are very aerobatic and stable too, wish I had the room to build one myself.... and the money LOL

Just a small point -R J Mitchell didn't design the P51Mustang -It was designed by Edgar Schmued who also worked on the prototype for the B25 Mitchell.

The original P51 was nothing special untill it was fitted with a RR Merlin Engine. Now that's an idea - a Panther with a Merlin engine

The P51 Mustang was always a good airframe, but was let down by the Alison V12 engine which lacked power at altitude. Once the 60-Series Merlin was installed it was a superb long range fighter.
What is interesting is that the P51 was designed to meet an RAF specification so with its British designed Packard built engine it is truly an Anglo-American aircraft, although not many Yanks will admit that.

In England during WW2 a lot of young ladies wore American knickers - one Yank and they were off 😅.

One of the lad at my flying club is building a T51 mustang, fingers crossed it will have the Honda v6 in it, but the CAA are being stubborn. If it is allowed and certified to do Aeros, it will be amazing!

A good friend of mine races a 'Thunder Mustang' called 'Blue Thunder' in the USA.
