Wont Rev Past 3000 Rpm

Well as these threads often end up without a conclusion I thought I would provide an update. I changed the pump for a Walbro one, flushed all the lines and renewed the fuel filter. The car started immediately and runs like a sewing machine. The fuel pump was working but simply didn't have the output to run the car.

RESULT. Thanks to all who have provided input. Mark

I did fit a new filter but there was such a lot of silt/scale in the tank I wonder if it has overwhelmed/destroyed it. Going to try a second filter and blow out the lines. Any further suggestions on isolating my problem.

Well if it’s not the sole problem then I think that flushing and cleaning out all the rubbish in the tank and fuel lines will certainly help.

I'd be checking the TPS

Thanks. Any clue on how to test the TPS? MPIs are new territory for me.

Ive seen something similar on an SPI and it was the fuel pump. It wouldnt build pressure and dribbled fuel from an open end hose. Changed the pump for a known good one and away it went.

Thanks Sprocket. After what might be a bit of a wild goose chase I pulled the fuel feed pipe off and ran the pump. I got what looked like 8psi. I think I should be expecting 40 psi plus. So the pump does operate but appears to be way short of what the system needs.

That was only a visual but the return also seems pretty dry. I have a new Walbro pump on hand and will fit this at the weekend. I reckon this will be my problem.

Appreciate your input. Mark

One other thing to think about is if youve had the tank out of the car, are the fuel hoses connected onto the correct outlets on the tank?.....

Glad it’s sorted without being anything expensive!
