Evening everyone, having a minor dilemma with a metro air box currently installed on my 1293. It has no inlet pipe fitted, and the (massive) inlet port is on the radiator side. Would I be best sealing this up (nicely) and making a new inlet on the other side, or is the airflow from that side of the engine not much different from the clutch side? Also if I need to remove the inlet, would I be best having some small holes or running some ducting down to the grille? Ta!

Because thats no fun. You dont think the fan would be robbing air from the filter entry? (Im no aerodynamicist, Im guessing.)

get the austin metro type inlet box instead (if the pipe fits between the brake servo and engine). that comes around the engine and has inlet in front of the engine.

Looks like they were pretty desperate to get the air from somewhere else then- I think I'll have a play!

Air wasnt important. New drive by noise laws made them do it 😊

So what do you think? Cut an inlet on the other side, or should it not matter?

Are we we back to the original question? The filter element is offset away from the intake so air can flow to all of it. Cutting a hole elsewhere won't have that gradual reduction in area going away from the air inlet. A pipe could work well, the smoother its surface the better. Are you plumbing in the vacuum operated hot air flap?

I dont have the flap, all I have at the minute is the air box as above, with the inlet facing the radiator. The question is, is this the best direction to be drawing air from? Or should I modify the air box to draw air from the other side of the engine?
