A bit more progress today.

I top coated the underside

Once that had baked off, I started flatting the primer on the top side.

First I apply a guide coat

And then flat the primer

And once that was done, I degreased ready for top coat.

Before I paint the car, the seam covers need to go on so some topcoat needs to go on there first

Once that flashed off, I clipped on the seam strips and then painted the car

The colour looks all over the place in the photos but looks normal in the flesh.

Cheers

Ben

That colour looks really good in the photos. I mean it's basically a mirror in the last one :)

Did all Minis have the underside painted in body colour? And I wonder if that's the case in other countries where they built Minis.

The only negative with these threads of yours Ben is you make it all look so easy ......... I know from my own recent ham fisted attempts at body work it’s really not !

Today, I started building the Mini back up.

First in went the new brake and fuel lines as well as the battery + cable. Once they were routed and connected at the front, I bolted in the subframe

W2NWoiY.jpg

Then next I ran the rear loom through the car and fitted the rear lamps and fuel tanks

Then I refitted the boot lid and rear bumper

Y6kpCIZ.jpg

Before refitting the interior, it has been decided to fit anti drum pads to the floors as they drum quite a bit and the owner is keen to try and reduce noise levels.

This has made a huge difference to the amount of drum in the floor pans.

Next up will be the carpets which all need gluing back in and then ill drop the car to the floor and fit the doors

I'm not in tomorrow so progress will resume on Thursday. It should be back together by the end of the week.

Cheers

Ben

Ben,do you recommend that stuff for a regular Mini? Does it reduce the noise as well.

Keen to get sound dampening materials and quieten my Mini.

It is similar to the material that was fitted to Mini's in the factory and is suitable as an anti drum. It stiffens the floor pan up and takes out most of the drum and boom that a bare floor would give.

It does keep road noise down to an extent but proper carpet underlay is more suitable for that.

This car now has both so it should be a marked improvement.

It's still not going to be quiet in there but will be better than it was before

Thanks, Ben :) does minispares stock the stuff? I need to get the firewall padding, the bonnet padding and if I get the kit with the interior padding too, it would be nice to get this material too.
