Having spent the afternoon strimming and generally grass cutting I am reminded of an anecdote in RV Jones’ book Most Secret War concerning the Biting Raid.

In the quest for information on the German navigation beam Wurzburg a commando raid took place to capture on of the installations. (The raid is well written up at  http://www.combinedo...m/Bruneval.htm.) The raid was reasonably successful, but had an huge unforeseen benefit. Up to the raid the radar sites, being quite small and unfenced, were difficult to find. After the raid the Germans fenced them all off and the resulting vegetation growing under the fence made them easily spotted.

That entire book is interesting and fascinating.
R.V. Jones was a very clever guy. An old friend of mine knew him well having been one of the first students to study under him at Aberdeen just after WW2. My friend had been a Spitfire PR pilot so they had much in common. I was told that RV was a really great person
I can recommend that book too.
