Hi

We have just bought a Mk1 Austin Mini which we are restoring, our plan is to keep as original as possible no new paint job etc.

My first question is about the grille.

It has been supplied with a grill but the holes dont line up, from my own research it looks like a more modern grille Attached File  mini grille wrong.jpg   54.89K   2 downloadsand we should have a wavy grille Attached File  mk1 grille.jpg   15.47K   1 downloads can anyone confirm this?

The pic isn't our mini just one with the grille I think we have.

Looks like a Morris bonnet badge. Don't go off the V5 determine make, they're often wrong.

The grille looks to be a van/pick-up grille.... Im not 100% but think they are fitted to some of the Mk1's.... could all depend on the spec of the vehicle too I reckon...

Hi

Thats not our mini just example of the grille.

Ours is a 1964 Austin.

it is always best to use images of the actual part/car as there may be small difference that you have not seen.

The Green mini is an early Mk1 and the grille is correct. My '62 mini had that one, I think it for the basic model not the deluxe. Indicator lenses should orange though.

At the risk of simplifying it too much, the grille on the Mini in the picture is a Morris Mk1 grille, the wavy grille is an Austin Mk1 grille.

So, yes, as yours is an Austin it should have the wavy grille.

Unless it's a Cooper, in which case both the Austin and Morris Mk1s were different to each other , and different to those you have pictured!

This is our mini. I don't have a photo of the grille by it's definitely the wrong one.

As said the grille you think you have is a Morris Mk1 Mini grille (early basic ones were painted cream, deluxe versions were chrome). They fetch a good price cleaned up on ebay so don't throw it away.

The grille you need for your Austin Mini is the chrome wavy grille. The wavy grille was an Austin feature that was common to the grilles of many other Austins like the 1100 and A40, etc.

great thank you for your help.

We're well on our way to getting him on the road.

We're off to a restoration show Sunday so hopefully can pick one up there.
