Would you believe the driver was offered a "National Driver Alertness Course" rather than a prosecution.

At least insurance should be easy enough to sort out for whoever got hit.

What a total fool.
I wonder if he ended up in hospital and the judge took pity on him because of that??

Quite lucky, speedo says 50 when he hits, so possibly doing 70? Looked to a hair's breadth off going over the barrier into the oncoming traffic. Suppose he could claim he was swerving to avoid running in to the back of the camera wagon.

I find it surprising that the whole way through, the cameras audio is just recording radio 4 or whatever it is and there is not a sound or even a shocked gasp from the driver

It does show how strong the Bini passenger shell is.
That's what I was thinking, I doubt the driver would have survived that crash in some small hatchbacks.
The first 1990's Rover R50 MINI test mules used Rover 200 bodyshells reduced in weight to the target weight of the MINI and with much extra stiffness added by full roll cages to match the MINI's proposed ultra stiff bodyshell needed to achieve ultimate handling in its class at the time of launch in 2001.
