Need some tech advice. Got the newly rebuilt engine in, and the car won't start. I can hear the starter clicking and engaging but nothing after that. I also have a brand new battery giving me enough volts to crank it over. I even thought maybe to place it in gear and rock the car to move the cylinders and still nothing. Any suggestions? Oh one more thing, I went from inertia starter to pre engaged starter. Thanks

You have turned it over by hand first haven't you to make sure you haven't done anything dim. Does it turn over by hand with the plugs out ?

so you changed to a suitable flywheel?
you checked it rotated before fitting the cover?
you used the correct length bolts for the clutch bracket and engine mount? too long and they can lock the flywheel.

So the engine I had rebuilt was a spare A+ engine i had from my other mini. What my mini originally had was an A series. NOT the same engine rebuilt.

You need to earth to the BODY not a rubber mounted subframe.

I agree with this.

I have mine from the wok to the inner wing(shiny metal on inner wing) then covered with clear grease

so you can rotate the flywheel with the starter removed? by using a big screwdriver.

I do hve it to the body. I have it on the bracket side, NOT the bushing side of bottom mount

The subframe is still rubber mounted though, so the engine isn't earthed
