Hmm, the paint was kind of to seal it. As I am going to be putting down rubber or PVC locking floor tiles, I just wanted to supress as much dust as possible. So watered down coat of garage floor paint, then top coat, then maybe the floor insulating stuff I have left over, or maybe not, then the locking floor tiles.

I already have the paint I bought last year, builder said to leave it at least 6 months (been 12 now), and already have left over insulation so may as well use them.

Sorry for any confusion I may have caused, I'd seal and then put the tiles down on the sealed surface. I wouldn't see a need for paint too.

yep no worries, I am actually considering using a waterproof pva mix in a big bucket and sweeping it in with a brush, should be a bit quicker.

Are you sure that PVA is waterproof? The usual material for damp or wet conditions, as an adhesive, is somewhat different. I think it might be UVA, but doubt that it will form a good vapour barrier, as it is basically just an adhesive. But either of these will act as a bonding agent between layers of concrete,

I would suggest Synthaprufe, 3 coats, over bare concrete. Sprinkle a little bit of sand on top to give some grip for an overcoat of concrete, screeded and trowelled to get a decent finish

But obviously there are many other ways of doing it. You really do need a vapour barrier, which ideally would have been incorporated within he concrete, between the base "blinding" and the main structural layer, although on top, below the finishing layer is ok too. I say this, having had a huge amount of trouble with some utterly dishonest cowboy builders who did nothing of the sort and caused severe damp in my house and next door too. Check-a-Trade is a front for criminals and idiots, as I now know. The whole lot had to be dug up, at vast expense, by another builder.

The tiles are no good for jacking on, even indent where the tyre sits.  The other thing is they warp in sunlight.

The thing I am not sure on either is if they will buckle up and twist when steered on.

Alas, yes, if you try and manoeuvre inside the garage the tile moves with the tyre.  I only use mine to keep the floor a bit warmer in winter but take them up in the spring.

i might look into carpet tiles in that case, seen on some forums people buying in bulk from old offices spares for like 50p each, way much cheaper than what I'm looking at ...!

Carpet all the way for me.

did it a few years ago almost for a joke but never looked back

I rummage the bins / give a fitter a drink  of the local carpet rite and periodically replace my garage with used carpet. Luxury and comfy on me old creaky knees which have spent too many years kneeling on cold concrete floors,,, don't laugh - it'll be you one day
