Have eventually got round to sorting out my garage floor - newly laid concrete, well was last year, and dust has settle somewhat now. I am planning to paint it to seal it (mist coat/full coat etc) then lay down PVC floor tiles.

 

I am seeing quite a range in cost for similar 7mm thick PVC tiles - all "heavy duty". 

 

Anyone have any personal experience of any particular brand? Will be used for general garage use, one classic mini, two motorcycles, all of which will be standing in there more than out on the roads.

Seen a few people use similar stuff, looks nice but it does cost abit.

 

 

Personally I've just slapped a layer of Polyurathane floor paint down and that was fine.

I snaffled some excess industrial carpet tiles when the office at work was being refubished. Ive a pile of spares to cater for replacement in case of oil spills etc.

 

This and lining the walls with kinspan have been the best mods Ive done to the garage

As above, put an impermeable membrane down under any carpet/foam/tiles. Concrete 'breathes' and moisture can remain in the flooring and therefore in the garage. Warm, moist garages are a haven for rust!

The paint wont stick to dusty concrete no matter how much you sweep etc.  Thats why you need to put down self levelling stuff.

Pva the floor first. Paint will stick fine then

I've not had issues with paint sticking on concrete floors, comes off after a while with heavy traffic but it doesn't flake off by itself.

Am going to put down a diluted coat of the floor paint stuff first, as an undercoat, then a full coat. I got some rolls of insulation left from when I had wooden engineered floor fitted in the house, this went between the screed and the boards, so I may use that, then the floor tiles..! I looked at putting down ceramic tiles but just dont have the time for it. Cold too..

There are various sealing products available, prior to laying down your first coat of paint. Self levelling compound may do the job but if that doesn't key into the surface of the spalling concrete you're back to square one. (I only know from bitter experience!) I'd definitely seal the concrete with a proprietary product before putting any paint down.
