Common practice using that airfield.  They want to look a little closer into other goings on on that island!

It's how they keep their wealth.

Like what!!!

http://www.oecd.org/...equest/ratings/

The Isle of Man is one of the most compliant places in the world according to the global body which reviews tax transparency.

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development or OECD has published its latest ratings of 147 jurisdictions.

The Island is one of only six countries to be awarded the top rating during the second round of reviews.

It is also one of only three to have been rated compliant in the first and second surveys.

The United Kingdom is in the next band down and is rated as "largely compliant".

In terms of secrecy, the United States ranks 3rd, The United Kingdom 15th and the Isle of Man 32nd.

I suggest before you jump to conclusions based on inaccurate and sensationalist reporting, you have a bit of a closer look at your own home country's affairs!

And thanks to the IoM's transparency, we know they happily refund hundreds of millions for tax evaders. That airport is full of foreign owners who's aircraft have happily managed to get them tax free. There's playing the system, then there's blatant disregard for a country's reputation.

No the Island won't refund monies to tax evaders.  That is illegal!  The Isle of Man operates the exact same VAT system as the UK, which is what is actually being discussed and as defined by HMRC.

Yes Lewis Hamilton has avoided paying VAT on the Jet.  No different to a business claiming back the VAT on a Van and it then being used for personal use.  It's just that this is a high profile personality and the sum of monies for this single refund are rather large.  If you count the amount of business owners in the UK who claim back VAT on goods that then have a personal element of use Vans, mobile phones, Laptops etc. I'll think that you'll find the total figure is astronomical in terms of VAT refunds, but hey why let the facts get in the way of a good story!

And talking of morality, you have joked about murdering the Isle of Man's inhabitants (what sick thing will you joke about next)?, the information gained from this leak was illegally obtained (remember the phone hacking scandal), in terms of Money Laundering (illegal), Tax Evasion (illegal) Tax Avoidance (legal) the City of London is far far worse than the Isle of Man.  Dellaware in the USA is by far the worse and is a true secrecy jurisdiction!  The reporting on this from the journalists in the UK is utter hypocrisy!

I didn't realise that you could target just one Jet with a Nuclear Weapon without wiping out everything within a 30 odd mile radius!

Not getting involved in this argument, but back to the opening post, doing the rounds on social media this weekend..

"

If #LewisHamilton hadn't avoided paying the VAT on his private jet, we could have funded 17 Sure Start centres for a year, and he'd have to scrape by on his remaining £178 million.

Please give generously. "

The Isle of Man Government has correctly implemented and administered UK and EU VAT law for aircraft and yachts but should implement additional post-registration compliance procedures to ensure that the right VAT continues to be collected, a review carried out by HM Treasury has found.

But hey, just jump to inaccurate, false conclusions based on sensationalistic journalism...…………...
