Arent the T2s made in the UK? Theyll be replacing the reds T1s in 2030.
Yes we build the T2's in the UK.
Due to lack of orders and work load, we are trying to pull the Red Arrows contract forward as break in production will probably stop the UK manufacture of the Hawk. (Inda only build for themselves under licence)
Origonally the Red Arrows wanted them a few years ago, then it got put back to 2020 due to funding. Now its been placed on hold till 2030 again due to funding.
The Red Arrows are the UK's biggest advert for our aircraft industy so building a new fleet for them will gain world wide publicity which in turn should hopefully bring in more orders.
At the moment the Production line is running down at an alarming rate as we wait for small number potential orders to be signed. The Red Arrows fleet will give us breathing space to secure more orders and keep the line going.
The amount of skill and knowledge that stands to be lost is frighteneing which will not be replicated if the labour is lost.
Although the Hawk is a amazing trainer jet, it is a 50+ year old design with most of the airframe parts being hand made so no aircraft is ever 100% the same. With this comes alot of quirks and anomilies so alot of black magic and experience/knowledge is required, which has been passed on through generations of skilled men.
Please share the link and play a vital role in maintaining the UK industry.
