That is scary and unfortunately still happening today,I’ve been salvaging cars for many years and know people that still pull these tricks.no consciousness

They might be scum.... but at least they were hard working scum back then.
Nowadays they just slap a tax exempt vin plate on a later car (& buyers don't bother to check it out if it's legitimately entitled to tax exemption).

that is one hell of a lot of work. credit to them for going that far. that is dedication!
I would rather drive that than some of the badly "restored" junk I have seen over the years.

How much was a new Mini in 1971? They weren't much more than £590 anyway was they?

How much was a new Mini in 1971? They weren't much more than £590 anyway was they?
Mini Clubman Estate was £871 new in 1971.

Actually seems quite a lot! About £11.5k in today's money.
I thought Mini's were cheap back then?
