I fitted the Minispares Clubman set which retains your existing 1st and reverse gear. They are surprisingly quiet and you only hear them in 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Much quieter than 60's and 70's ST stes. Don't use the straight cut drop gears or final drive gears.
My FD was 3.2 but because the straight cut 1st gear is a higher ratio I changed to a 3.44 FD. Pulls off in 1st very easily. Don't know they're fitted when your cruising at altitude.

For a road car just stick with the standard gear box and ratios. they are well spaced and will work with mild cams which are what is needed for road use.
