Hi Guys! I dont know where problem might come from but it is like this

I have an original smith temperature gauge that worked fine, or think it is know, but the sending unit has been changed and it gives me some odd results, it gets past 3/4 of the dial and it continues going to the dangerous H.

I know it has to be something with the sending unit because water remains the same.

Any idea what can it be?

Thanks

Agustin

sounds like you have an incorrect sender.

have you checked the voltage stabiliser?

All the senders I've tried in recent years all do this and checking the temp / resistance of them, the senders just don't match the gauge.

Yes, I tried all the ones that Mini Spares sell and all the Triumph & MGB ones too.

Sadly, the wrong thread for a Mini. I don't know if these are correct for the gauge, if they are, you could use one with an adaptor.

I would lik it to function perfect, so maybe here they have got the original one.

But it says something about de voltage it needs... 10V, how can I get it to work that way?

I think I have no voltage stabiliser in that circuit. Where should I locate it? Thanks!

It is normally mounted on the rear of the centre speedo.

had a similar problem myself, mine ended up being the voltage regulator, it is located at the back of your centre speedo. You either replace it as it is not sending out a constant 10v output. C34770A from Mini spares at £15 OR go to Maplins and buy a solid state voltage regulator, looks like a three pronged chip. these cost about 60 pence. I removed the workings out of the old regulator and soldered the the Maplins chip in closed the can back and you would never know. 10volys constant. There is a thread on here somewhere if not speak to GAZWAD on 16v mini forum he is cool on lectrics, if not I think I have a spare one here or you can contact a lecccy guy called Spyder..he is on loads of forums and will steer you right.

hope that helps........Splintercat

the three pin fixed voltage regulator you want is LM7810 from Maplins.  there are 3 pins on it 1 input 1 ouput and 1 ground    ididn't use the ground pin I just cut it off and used the case of the item itself as a ground. Illsend you the details if you get stuck.
