Hi guys! If I am thinking of building a 80bhp engine, can I still use the original gear set or do I need some upgrades?

Change al the bearings may be a must but I don´t think which other things should I change

Thanks

Agustin

Not a problem can take way more than that.

The "original" transmission was very weak in several ways, but we are talking MK 1 here, and due to the value of originality it would not be a terribly good idea to mercilessly tune one of these. Remember that it was only an A35 gearset with some adaptation. When improved synchros came along, quite early on, things got much better. and as Nick says, there will not be a problem. But if your car is not really old it will most likely have A+ transmission which is better still. Have fun!
