Hi all can anyone please help , I have changed the engine in my mini from a 998cc to a 1275 i did all the work myself  . Now i would need to update the v5c ( log book). I sent the v5c off to the dvla with info of the new engine , they returned it with no info change because i did not supply evidence of the engine change . I need to supply them with report from a garage . How do i go about getting a report from a garage , will any garage give me a report or is there only certain garages that will do this . What does this report involve.

any help will be grateful

Thanks Chris .

It says here what to do - https://www.gov.uk/c...vidence-to-give
But that may present more problems!! This is something I have been meaning to do as well. Try phoning them, don't forget to tell us the result of you do.

Phoning is best, they may accept a letter from an owners' club, or set up your own temporary Mini specialist garage just long enough to design some headed paper and write a letter. Remind them that you have no reason to fiddle it as the tax is the same and your insurance is likely to be higher.

My local mot station/garage charge £10 to look at car and give headed paper note saying the new engine is fitted and working etc.

Sure most decent garages would be willing to help?

Note: The requirement for notification of engine changes to DVLA for Historic vehicles (tax exempt now rolling) was removed back in 2011:-

http://www.theminifo...-vehicles-dvla/

Changes to engine details for historic vehicles

"This change applies to all tax-exempt vehicles and was agreed due to the potential difficulties in providing supporting evidence/documentation for old/scrap replacement engines for historic/classic cars and also due to the fact that they are not taxed based on engine size/capacity in any case"

As above, pop into your local garage and explain the problem and see if they can help, when I did my swap I just got the garage to say they sold me the engine with the engine number, etc as it's a receipt of the engine

I have known people to make a letter up completely, with a bs garage name and gone through fine

My local MG/Rover specialist charged me £25.00 to inspect the vehicle an write a letter stating the engine number, chassis number and registration number belonged to the same vehicle. The DVLA then took two months to change my V5C.
