hi All,

a bit of a strange one.

new doors form the mini door company, granted purchased a couple of years ago and not used but were dry stored and out of harms way.

Got doors hanging nicely and everything lining up.

been trying with out success to get the windows to slide up and down smoothly and without too much effort.

so fitted new rubbers, lubes up with silicone spray, glass cleaned and regulators greased and moving effortlessly.

fitted glass and initially moved freely but left over night and glass had binded inside the door, so much so i bent one of the legs of the window regulators.

got replacement regulator, removed glass, again, lubed everything up but can't get the glass to move freely.

it's like the glass is too big, i know it's not, for the frame of the door.

it's one of the last items to do on the car, but really getting to me that i can't figure it out.

regulators fitter with arms facing out,

new stainless runners fitted,

runners lubed

regulator lubed.

short of grinding the windows a little, any idea what my problem could be.

any help gratefully appreciated

the car in question is a 79 mk4

and it's both sides, drivers door worse than passangers, to the point it's not moving now.

thanks mdtstar28, already on my second window regulator on the drivers door.

was hoping that while it was all lubed up, the a few up and downs of the window would bed in the seal.

no such luck. getting more and more frustrated the more i try to solve problem,, i'd leave it be, but you kinda need the windows to go down sometimes.

I believe it's possible to fit the regulators on the wrong doors, they will fit but give problems similar to what you're having.

No not really, i wonder what they actually did to the doors?? Having done quite a few you find all sorts of damage.

However i think its down to the rubbers. Although they are new was there a build up of old adhesive in the frames before you fitted the new seals?? All it would take is a small lump to try and force the window over against the other side.

i never taught about the glue, must check that tomorrow,

to be honest, don't know what they did to doors, the mini door company has a good reputation, but who know's how shipping was handles, i'm over in ireland.

thanks for the tip on the glue,, i'm assuming a build up of paint would do the same thing.

i'll investigate more tomorrow.

this really is a head scratcher, so much so i'm thinking of converting to the sliding type windows, but can't find anyone to supply kit anymore.
