Hi

Am getting a boot mounted lucas with the chrome "nipple" . Have seen different lenses - fog and spot

Clear lens and  patterned lens..... for the boot mounted reversing or is it just down to personal choice ?

I think i prefer the sparkle of the clear but I am a bit of a magpie and like some chrome bling

Thanks for replies

Matt

Not really legal, so never official. Your personal choice, though a fog light beam makes more sense unless you're reversing at  70mph. Just wire it through a manual switch to avoid dazzling any police cars as you reverse off your drive.

The legality of lighting (inc. reverse lights) depends on the age of the car.

As long as there have been Minis it's never been legal to have something that bright. I wouldn't worry so much about being knicked for it, but it is likely to dazzle other road users and potentially cause you liability problems if you have bump while reversing.

If the car was used before 1st April 1986 you can use a reverse light with no approval mark and fit it with a bulb of up to 24 watts.
On or after 1st April the light has to have an approval mark.

But there is no P36S/BPF bulb under 24W available for the Lucas 756 lamps

They were really only fitted to the rally cars where it was useful to have a good reversing light for when a junction was overshot so that rapid reversing was easier. Also it was good if one went off the road to provide a warning to following competitors. We used a 55 watt tungsten bulb and the fog-light lens.

In all my years of having them on my various rally cars I never had the bulb wattage checked and I always wired them in with a warning light on the dash.

I got pulled by traffic branch (in an unmarked VW Vento VR6) many years ago and admonished for having a "too bright" reversing light. "Terribly sorry Constable" etc etc, wasnt near my home town so was never likely to cross my path again!
