So
I have been thinking about starting a project for a while now
Bought a Rover Mayfair SPI in November 2016 for a nice sum of 2000 pounds
Used it as a daily driver for about 3 months before buying another car
Since then it has been waiting on the drive for the day when I start to refurb it
It appears that all the cars I own have a name, as it's small and red he has been named Clifford

What are the plans for Clifford?

It looks a clean little motor to be honest. Can just see some corrosion under the N/S headlight, other than that it looks well.

Long term plan was going to be a referb plus supercharger

However due to cost constraints I think I'll just rebuild the engine as normal and update it later if I come across some money in order to do a supercharger setup

The shell is not too bad however as you spotted normal areas have rusted, front of wings, boot floor, scuttle pannel and the floor seals have been repaired badly to pass an mot by the looks of it with large thick steel sheet (not with a new floor panel)

I will get some more pictures soon

So I sold the wheels that resulted in resting the car on a pallet

After some time i finally made a start so last week I completed the following

First things first to drop the sub frame (for some reason the subframe mounting point on the drivers footwell had cracked and corroded)

Next step is to strip back the engine and see what parts are okay to use

Made a small amount of progress this weekend
Made a start stripping the engine

Cylinder head off first with no issues

Next plan was to remove the flywheel
Instead of taking notice of the reviews on here I decided to buy a cheep laser puller for £20
After lots of tightening heating and hammering it resulted in a disagreement with the tool

After giving up and looking at buying a more robust 12.9 grade bolt (8.8 grade bolt supplied is just useless)

The next morning after leaving it tensioned overnight
A small amount of heating and a couple of hits with a hammer it finally slipped off

Next split the block and box gears look in good condition with limited ware

Taken a piston out to have a better look at the bore
Need to make the decision if I should rebore or just hone and rebuild
I think a rebore might be worth doing
Does anyone know any reliable / good value machinists near Coventry

I'm thinking about supercharging in the future
Might be worth getting some forged pistons so that it's ready when the time comes
Does anyone have any experience with supercharging and piston selection ?
