Hey guys,

Question, what other cars use the same dampers(shock absorbers) as the Mini? Its time to change mine, and I'd like to go for the good ol KYB std oil filled ones (442001 and 442002) as mine is a road car for casual use.

My local mini parts supplier however is selling them for over double the price of what they are listed for at Mini Spares (and its not even KYB specifically, just some generic ones). To me thats way overpriced. I get that shipping to Malaysia is expensive, but I dont want to pay so much.

I tried at a few large car parts stores, but none of them have dampers for Minis. Giving them the part number isnt helpful as they all stock and label by the car its for rather than the part number.

So I ask, what other cars are the mini dampers used on? Preferably japanese cars like toyota, nissan or datsun as those cars are very common here (especially old cars).

I do scower the books from time to time and looked again not that long ago.

The only shock I found that fit a Mini are Mini ones. There is a Suzuki one that comes close to the back end of a Mini Van, but that's about it.

The other issue with trying to fit ones from another car is you'll find they'll be over damped for a Mini.

I guess, what I'm hoping for the mini dampers to use the exact same dampers as some other more common car.

Used to be easy years ago when we had proper parts books. You looked up the Girling,Unipart or whatever part number for a mini shocker then went to the cross reference section for other car manufacturers own part number.

I've done a part number check and can't find any other 'common' car that shares them.

Dampers are usually vehicle-specific as they are set to suit the vehicle weight, spring rate and length of available suspension travel.
