Hello

almost 10 000 kms since the rebuild.  Have noticed a small oil leak, appears to be coming from this area around the clip, on the outside of course, what does it indicate, should I be worried, what action should I take,

thanks for your help as always

Leaking here is usually from the crankshaft seal, which requires removal of flywheel to replace. If it is very slight I would leave as is.

Did you replace the primary gear oil seal on the rebuild and what was the condition of the primary gear?

OK thanks, I thought so, the lovely orange seal, no it's just a tiny drop occasionally, but here in Japan at the car tax inspection they fail you for that kind of thing. I'll let it go for a bit and check some more that it's not coming from somewhere else and flowing near that area. Thanks for the pictures too :)

From my experience, if it is the Oil Seal, not all Oil Seals are equal.

I've had mostly good success with these;-

But, I believe these are better (though I haven't tried them);-

Check the bushes in the Primary Gear are not worn and also check that it's not oil weaping in via one of the bolts or studs.

<Edit: While not a likely cause, but best to check all the same, be sure the Crankcase breathers are not choked. >

Fitted the 1992 onwards seals to all our A+ engines(one is a 1989, 2 are 1993/4, all carb'd) all these engines have oil leaks, of varying degrees but a leak is a leak imo
