Using Halfords as an example as I know most stuff is cheaper online, but I can’t really be arsed with having to wait a few days for delivery each time.

Is this product basically the g3 rubbing compound that was in the yellow bottles in different packaging?

http://www.halfords....ver-paste-150ml

As I have a few areas I need to flat off with 2000 wet and dry and polish back up, although I might just settle for Halfords own rubbing compound.

After doing a little digging it turns out that Farecla do a range of different products, witch all do different things under the same G3 name. So the Halfords G3 is just a scratch remover and not a cutting compound.

So any recommendations on a cutting compound for polishing up by hand, after flatting with 2400 wet and dry.

I know polishing by hand is hard work :P

I do have a mop, but I only need to do localised areas that need further attention (masking tape lines, dull/rough patches, scratches, overspray etc) on  panel edges, doors shuts etc, that can't be polished with a mop.

In that case then use the products I posted, use a decent microfibre cloth to buff up. The S17+ could be used on its own to be honest as I have done in the past and it will pop as my pictures of Paddy will attest to. The G3 being a bit more old skool will however take out any heavier scratches to start with, then follow with S17+.

So the bodyshop grade G3 is still the stuff to use, even though it is a bit old school.

Just a pain its back to ordering online again, as the nearest bodyshop supplier no longer has a trade counter.

Although you'd just have to look at the pics in my project thread to see that, apart from the issues I've highlighted, one thing the paint isn't lacking is shine. Although the pics really don't do it justice.

In that case stick with the S17+, thats what I use on my daily and the wifes car. Both metallic black with Lacquer. The good thing about it is the way it breaks down ends up like a normal polish. Then wax. G3 is more old school whereas the S17+ is a new product that was recommended by a detailed on this very forum. Been using it for a while and happy with the results. I have no doubt there are far superior products out there but for the price Im happy.

Like Shift I also use 3M products as well, Polish Rosa is very good as well as the Finese.
