Right, its time for new tyres (my current ones are at the end of life) and Im getting a set of winters and then get another set of wheels and stick some summer tyres on.

Im not really interested in the debate of summer v winter tyres, but I am interested to know if the above are any good? The last winter tyres I had were Goodyear Ultragrip 8 and they were really good. The Falkens come in at £69 a corner and the Goodyear (now UG9) at £84. Id be interested know if the Falkens are decent value and are worth opting for.

My brother has these for his Audi, had absolutely no complaints with them. Have you had a look at Nokians, I've just got a set for my countryman sd, they have better ratings than any other winter in my size

Another option is Kumho winters, I ran them on my Leon tdi and they were brilliant in the cold. Weren't so great when it warmed up but you won't have that issue if you are going to be swapping. They are probably cheaper than the falkens too

Thanks. I went with the Ultragrips in the end (they are getting fitted today, ironically after the snow!). I have had them before on the Focus, so knew what Iw as getting. I had read a couple of things about the Falekns not being so good in the wet and considering that our winters will tend to be cold and wet rather than snow all the time, I figured I'd stick with what I know. They will last a few years now though!
