Hi, recently got a SPI Cooper that was half restored. having trouble with the fuel pump running. there is power to the output side of the inertia switch but power to both wires is lost between that and the connector at the tank, are there any connections behind the dash? where do the wires run from front to back?

The pump and car runs fine when a wire is run from the inertia switch to the pump and another to earth

Thanks

Have you tried removing the inertia switch and bridging the contacts for continuity?

Thanks for the reply. Yes we have power past the inertia switch and confirmed that is working fine, it gets lost somewhere between the switch and the pump connection.

No, loom is not under the carpet, it's in the roof.Disconnect the indoor light, the pump and all rear lights. Then solder an other wire to one of the connections. Now you can pull the complete loom to the foot compartement on the left side of your mini. You will see the loom running from the center of the dash to the left door hinge and then into a hole upwards to the roof.

Second possibility is to pull part of the loom out of the hole for the indoor light and check if the wire for the pump keeps current up to here.If yes you only have to pull the loom up to here.Solder a new piece of wire to it and pull it back to the rear.

That's a new one on me. All the SPi's I've had the pleasure of working on, the rear loom runs along the passenger side floor. There's a clearance section in the cross member and the floor channel is slightly deeper than the others.

@ Sprocket

sorry, with my 92 spi ,it is like that. Possibly one of the owners had changed it before. And i forgott : do'nt forget to disconnect the wire for the rear shield heater!
