I've recently tried to post an introduction but it seemed to disappear into the ether. An unhelpful message popped up about needing approval but so far - nothing.

Regardless - I'm trying again. Car is a 1984 registered Mini 25 recently retrieved from the family home warm dry garage owned for many decades and not used for a very long time.

As an easy first job I'm sourcing some appropriate key fobs and keys. Just wondering if the original keys would have been plain metal or if they would have had plastic tops moulded onto them? Anyone know the best source for this kind of thing?

Thanks in advance and I'll have more interesting posts once the proper work starts.

door/boot locks used plain keys. fuel key was plain. and the ignition key could be plain or have a plastic head.

Many thanks.

Two roughly period correct leather fobs on their way from 'Classic Reproductions' and a cut ignition lock key ordered from an established eBay seller.

The approval of new members was introduced to combat waves of spam we were suffering. Sorry you had to wait, it's a matter of one of TMF's elves spotting your post and that it's not about Viagra, strange overseas investments....

As above only the ignition keys had plastic, even if you got an extra key supplied from a dealership it would have been just metal. The key fobs would usually have been the Dealership's own merchandising.

Thanks Ethel. Apologies - I think my first introductory post vanishing may have been my fault. All OK now.

Received key from the eBay vendor; its bright silver and it fits perfectly. Old key was brass colour (yuk) and worn looking. A small start but all great journeys start with one step they say.
