Make sure your alternator is pushing out at least 13.8 volts, and check all earth connections. Quartz halogen Nightbreakers are the way to go

Sounds interesting, I've not come across them before. They'll have to be good to better the Nightbreakers for the money. I'll have to have a look,  will they work with standard wiring and have you a link to them?

Just bought another set for £20, they dont last that long, think about 5 months during winter, standard 55w so wiring is fine and  still legal too.

I had one go last week, put a cheaper bulb in to get me by and can already see the difference.

Dont get me wrong nightbreakers are good, but I do alot of over the moors pitch black (and fog) early driving so like to get all the light I can get aha :)

I've used Nightbreakers for several years on many different cars, great performance and never had a problem.

The Phillips 150% brighter ones, were very slightly better, BUT as stated didn't last so I've gone back to Nightbreakers and don't notice the difference.

On my Mini, I have fitted relays to both main & dip circuits, nearly 1 volt more at the light, plus no heavy load on the switch gear.

See https://www.wiredbywilson.co.uk/products-prices/  scroll down for Safe & upgraded lighting kits.

Thank you to everyone who has replied. I never fail to be impressed by the kindness of my fellow 'pocket' rocket' owners. Prepared and willing to answer what is, probably to you guys, the most idiotic of questions. Polite and courteous but never condescending or 'talking down' to me.

To you all. Have a lovely Christmas, and of course New Year.

Although the lamps make a difference, I found the biggest difference was found when I swapped the headlamp unit to the Cibie H180 headlight units. Those coupled with a good lamp (I used the Osram NBs), made the light output miles better than standard.
