My MPI Coopers cooling fan has started to run all the time. Are there any common faults that cause this?

This is often a symptom of a faulty coolant temperature sensor circuit (sensor and its wiring), but not limited to.

Can be damaged wiring due to age or faulty sensor

Might be worth replacing the ' temperature water transducer mpi brown sensor', though a similar problem on mine was cured by removing said sensor, spraying with wd40, quick wipedown and refit.

of course, this answer its not usefull to you after almost 2 years, but it may help others.
Clean the electric contacts on the sensor. You can find it very close to the expansion tank.
