Never used any oil from Gulf. But I also don't hold by this use cheap oil or running in oil. I use the same oil as I would be planning on using.

I'd suggest a lighter Oil. I use a 15W40;-

You only want to use it for about the first 200 miles or so, but no more than 400 miles.

What ever you use, be sure it isn't friction modified or a synthetic.

I think Millers oils are good and pretty widely available, they do one especially for the Mini with its combined gearbox. I agree with Nick I think running oils are far more relevant on large unstressed engines that run the risk of the bores glazing up before the machines parts have bedded in properly (something like a large V8). When you are running a Mini in you struggle more not to work the engine too hard with modern traffic speeds, rather than work it hard enough.

when using any type of oil - also consider the gearbox & a quality oil filter

also consider there are fake oil's about - so if it is un usually cheap - dodge it

You need 5 litres so a 4 litre container plus 1 litre probably works out quite expensive. Just pop down to Halfords and buy a 5 litre of their Classic 20w/50 mineral oil.

With oil for the classic Mini there are two questions which need to be asked:

1.  It is a mineral oil of the correct viscosity (2050 for a manual and 10w40 for an automatic.

2.  Does it have a suitable level of zing - the ZDDP level.

If both are OK then it is fine to use. If they are not both OK then steer clear.

Although having some zing in your mini is good, what the gearbox really needs is some zinc!  :D
